Events

Almost once a month, our sustainability department hosts a farmers market in one of the schools main areas to allow students to purchase fresh local produce and goods meal taps, dining dollars, or card. This helps students discover and engage with local farms and businesses and have access to quality produce at a fraction of the cost. These markets also often collaborate with other student groups to educate and give back to their community such as our gathering for Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week and Compost Fest.
Wipe Out Waste is an event that reminds our guests to mindfully serve food by being aware of what they are hungry for and knowing they can always get another serving. We hope this event lowers the amount of food waste leaving our locations.
In either dining hall, we will set up sampling of fair trade coffees to educate students on the definition of fair trade and its overall impact. The certification is an indication of the business enabling sustainable development for farmers, workers, their families, and communities around the world.
Reuse events are to show students crafty ways to continue using old items to avoid them ending up in landfills. These events include things like decorating tote bags and making scrunchies from old uniforms.
Farm Fridays are held in Liberty St. Food Hall once a month to highlight locally sourced produce and farms in the Charleston area.
Each month we feature a particular produce item and highlight its benefits.
