Partner Farms
Here are some of the farms we purchase from through Growfood Carolina.
Dogwood Farms - Charleston, SC
Dogwood Farm is a 13 acre farm for flowers, peppers, pumpkins, and more. The farm is run by Colt and his dad, Chris. Chris purchased the farm is 2003 and started by growing ornamental trees for landscapes. When the recession hit, he slowed down his business and in 2011, Colt was born. Ever since then, Colt has played a large part in the farm's operations. This father-son partnership is admirable.
Anson Mills - Columbia, SC
Anson Mills is a local organic heirloom grains farm founded by Glenn Roberts. Glenn is a passionate historian and started Anson Mills after realizing ingredients for historically accurate dishes were no longer available in South Carolina.
Glenn grows historic grains using cold milling. By 2001, Anson Mills was certified organic and produced Carolina Gold rice and a Thirteen Colony wheat called Red May. Anson Mills actively preserves the historical accuracy of lowcountry cuisine.
Old Tyme Bean Co. - Elloree, SC
Josh Johnson started the Old Tyme Bean Company with his father-in-law, Bates Houck. This farm is well known for growing a kind of speckled butter bean that was grown in the 1800's - the Jackson Wonder.
Josh Johnson's grandmother sporadically collected Jackson Wonder seeds which Josh used to start his farm, but now they grow so many Jackson Wonders that he has to order seeds for the 10 acre farm. Josh Johnson is now the chair of the South Carolina Speciality Growers Association.
